Live-in carer helping an elderly woman at home, live-in care in Cheam

Live-In Care in Cheam (SM3)

Yes, NeeryVille Care provides live-in care in Cheam SM3, and SM2 too, across the London Borough of Sutton, which took in Cheam when the Sutton Urban District absorbed it in 1928 and became Sutton and Cheam. One DBS-checked carer, trained by us, moves into the house and stays day and night, so there is 24 hour care in Cheam without your relative having to leave their own armchair.

St Helier Hospital has 629 beds, a 24-hour accident and emergency department, the South West Renal and Transplantation Service and Queen Mary’s Hospital for Children on the same site. The estate around it was named after Mary Jeune, Baroness St Helier, an alderman of the London County Council, and Princess Diana opened its maternity unit in 1987. If your relative is on a ward there and you are searching for what comes next, tell us the day they are expected home and we will get the carer in place.

A family house built for five can be a great deal for one widow, with stairs to climb, a garden to keep and a long walk to Cheam Village or the shops at Victoria Junction. Call us on 0208 129 5854 to talk it through, with no obligation.

Live-In Care at Home in Cheam: From Cheam Village to Nonsuch Park, Cared for at Home

Imagine a bright Saturday morning at Nonsuch Park, which four councils bought in 1937 to save it from development. A 5km parkrun sets off every Saturday, so the carer can park your relative on a bench to watch the runners and chat with whoever passes. Nonsuch Mansion, rebuilt in Tudor Gothic style between 1802 and 1806, has a café and flower gardens close by. If a morning like that would be welcome, ask us to work it into the week.

Every 15 May the Cheam Charter Fair comes round, and the carer can find out what is on. On other days it is the crossword, the radio and a good tea. The carer helps your relative to bed and is in the house until morning.

Taking Mornings Slowly

Dressing and breakfast should never be rushed. Afterwards the carer can take your relative to Cheam Library, near the war memorial that was listed in December 2016, to change a book and say hello.

Local Surroundings

Cheam Village Conservation Area was designated in 1970, and the Old Cottage on Malden Road was moved about 100 yards in 1922 to escape road widening. A slow walk past such sights gives your relative plenty to talk about.

Paperwork and Check-Ups

Tablets are prompted and logged each time. Letters from the GP and from St Helier Hospital are filed together, and the carer passes on what was said at any visit, including at the private St Anthony’s Hospital in North Cheam.

Shopping and Meals

Cooking to your relative’s taste, with ingredients from the shops they like, whether those are in Cheam Village or at Victoria Junction in North Cheam, where there is a Sainsbury’s and a post office.

A Breath of Fresh Air

Cheam Park has tennis courts, football pitches, a playground and a café. The carer picks the flattest path, brings a folding seat when needed and leaves the length of the visit to your relative.

Keeping Active

Cheam Leisure Centre on Malden Road has a 30-metre pool, squash courts and a gym. If the GP agrees, the carer can take your relative for a gentle swim or go with them to the gym.

Why Cheam Families Turn to NeeryVille

Search for live-in care in Cheam and the results are directories, not local pages. One lists 25 agencies near North Cheam with an average weekly cost of £1,507; another shows asking prices from £1,095 to £2,184 a week, and three of its listings show no price. We think a family deserves better: our carers are our own employees, one carer lives in with each person, and the daily rate is written on this page. Call us and we will show you what that looks like in SM3.

Familiar person, every day

Your relative gets to know one carer’s routine, voice and humour, and the carer gets to know theirs. A steady household is a calm household.

For anyone living with memory loss, seeing the same person each morning matters enormously. Our same-carer approach is built on that belief, and we are glad to describe how it works.

Out within 14 days

If things do not feel right at any time in the first 14 days, you can end the arrangement at once, with no notice and no fee.

That is the 14-Day Live Well at Home Guarantee, so you can try it without worry.

Employed, not agency

NeeryVille Care is regulated by the Care Quality Commission. Each carer is employed, trained and overseen by us rather than hired as a freelancer through you. Our registration on the CQC website is open for anyone to check.

Clinical leadership

Behind every placement stands a clinical governance framework, run by experienced clinical leaders, which supports safe care for people with dementia, those recovering from a stroke and people with Parkinson’s.

Coming home from hospital

Discharge from St Helier Hospital can be arranged at short notice. Following our free assessment a matched carer can normally be in the Cheam house within 24 to 48 hours, so give us the date the moment you have it.

The person in charge

Daniel Johnson, our Registered Care Manager, brings more than twelve years in care and specialist dementia training, and he keeps a close personal eye on every live-in placement.

Is It Time for a Live-In Carer in Cheam?

Sometimes it is the house itself. After a husband’s funeral the rooms are too big and too quiet, the garden he looked after has gone wild, and letters stack up unopened. His wife says she is managing, but her daughter, living two hours away, can hear in her voice that she is not. A live-in carer brings company back into the house, keeps up with the post and the meals, and notices when something is wrong.

For others it is a hospital stay. After St Helier Hospital the house can seem different, with the stairs steeper and the first night alone a worry. A carer there from the day of discharge removes that worry for everyone.

Whatever the reason, we begin by asking what a good day looks like for your relative in Cheam, rather than counting hours, and shape the care around it.

If you have been the sole carer for months, ask us about respite care: a live-in carer moves in, and you get a proper rest with someone your relative has had time to know.

Conditions Our Cheam Carers Support

Our live-in carers in Cheam support people living with dementia, recovering from a stroke, or living with Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, cancer and reduced mobility, in SM3 and across the London Borough of Sutton.

Sharing a Home, Sharing Care: Couples in Cheam

Consider a couple in their late seventies. She has dementia and gets anxious by late afternoon, while he has a heart condition and a hip that makes the stairs hard, and he has been quietly covering for her for months. One live-in carer can settle her in the evening, help him with the stairs and cook for both, and give him some rest of his own.

The carer’s hours go to whichever of them needs it that day, and neither has to leave the house they chose. If that sounds familiar, call and ask how we care for a couple.

Why Cheam Families Choose Live-In Care at Home Instead of a Care Home

If your relative has lived in Cheam for fifty years, their own armchair is where they want to be, and live-in care makes that possible day and night.

Cheam appears in Domesday Book as Ceiham, held by Archbishop Lanfranc, and in 1259 Henry III granted it a charter that made it a town. Part of the parish was handed to Henry VIII in 1538 and he began Nonsuch Palace, which was pulled down around 1682 to settle the gambling debts of the Countess of Castlemaine, while houses such as Whitehall, built about 1500, remained.

At home, your relative keeps their own cupboards, their own bed and the way they like the day to go. A single carer moves in and learns the habits, so the person at bedtime is the person at breakfast. Where there are two of you, one carer can help both and you stay together.

Census figures show detached houses at 38.2 percent of the homes in Cheam, and a family house with stairs and a garden is a lot for one person. A live-in carer takes on the stairs and the shopping alongside your relative. If they are on a ward at St Helier Hospital, tell us the day they are expected home and the carer can be in place.

To talk about what could work for your family, call us on 0208 129 5854 and describe the house, with no obligation.

What the Daily Rate Covers

The carer lives in the house full time. The daily rate includes personal care, medication prompting and recording, help getting around, errands, prescriptions, companionship and outings. Bus routes 213, 151, 93 and SL7 are listed as serving Cheam, and Cheam station is on the Sutton and Mole Valley lines, so the carer can plan a trip to St Helier Hospital or into Sutton, with the Wimbledon and Sutton line, which opened in 1930, as another option.

If needs are more involved, for example dementia care at home, live-in care for a couple or recovery after an operation, we give a tailored quote after meeting you.

Paying for Care at Home in Cheam

Ask the GP or the ward team about NHS Continuing Healthcare, particularly before a discharge from St Helier Hospital. It has no means test and is for people whose main need is a health need.

Sutton Council starts with an online care needs checklist, which leads to a form requesting an assessment. You may qualify for funded care if you live in Sutton, are over 18, have a condition affecting at least two everyday tasks and have savings under £23,250. If your savings are higher, the council can still arrange and manage care, but you pay the full cost plus an arrangement fee. The council contacts you within 10 working days, and a financial assessment follows the care plan.

Age UK Sutton has its main office at Sutton Gate, 1 Carshalton Road, SM1 4LE, with reception open 10am to 3pm on weekdays. Its Dementia Hub is free, works with Admiral Nurses, supports families at memory clinics and has a direct line on 07723 060081.

You can have a carer while the paperwork is still moving, so tell us where you have reached.

Starting Live-In Care in Cheam

Most people say the phone call was the hard part. This is what comes next.

01

Dial our number

You do not need to have it all worked out.

Phone 0208 129 5854 and a member of our care team, often Daniel Johnson, will talk to you.

We listen to your situation and think through what could work for Cheam. No forms, no promises needed.

It is a conversation with people who set up live-in care all the time.

03

We learn about them

We ask what they remember. Tony Hancock’s Hancock’s Half Hour set its fictional Railway Cuttings in East Cheam, a place name that really existed, and the Granada cinema on London Road showed films from 1937 until 1969. Jane Dee, an Elizabethan lady-in-waiting, was born in Cheam, and the Nonsuch Pottery was established around 1800. A radio comedy, an evening at the pictures or a school day at Tabor Court can open a long conversation.

Whatever comes up helps shape one person’s care plan. Ring and tell us which of these memories your relative returns to.

We choose the carer

We match skills to needs and personality to personality, so that the carer fits into the home.

The 14-Day Live Well at Home Guarantee lets you try the match with nothing to lose.

02

04

The carer moves in

The carer arrives, normally within a day or two of the assessment and faster after a hospital stay.

Urgent requests linked to St Helier Hospital are handled first.

You have one person to call from the first day.

Going from the first call to a carer at the door usually takes a day or two. If it is urgent, we aim to be faster still.

We arrange the free assessment around you, and after care begins we keep checking in, so changes in health, mood or routine come to light early.

Neeryville Care - Compassionate Home Care You Can Trust

Live-In Care in Cheam: What Families Ask Us

How much does live-in care in Cheam cost?

Live-in care from NeeryVille Care in Cheam is £190 per day, fully inclusive, with nothing tucked away. After the free assessment you see the exact figure in writing before you decide.

How quickly can live-in care start in Cheam?

Usually within 24 to 48 hours of the assessment, including when your relative is leaving St Helier Hospital. Tell us the discharge date when you call and we will schedule around it.

Do you provide live-in care for people with dementia?

Yes. One carer in the house gives a person with dementia the same face and rhythm every day, which many find calming. The Dementia Hub at Age UK Sutton is free and families can ring it on 07723 060081.

Is live-in care better than a care home?

It comes down to the individual. At home they keep their own bed, their own garden and their own habits, and a husband or wife can stay close, with a carer giving them undivided attention. Others do better elsewhere, and we will be straight with you.

What happens if my carer is ill or on holiday?

If your carer is ill or taking leave, we send a cover carer from our own team so your relative is always looked after.

Is NeeryVille Care regulated by the CQC?

Yes. NeeryVille Care Ltd is registered with the Care Quality Commission, and our CQC provider page is public.

Which areas of Cheam do you cover?

We cover Cheam Village, North Cheam and Victoria Junction, South Cheam and the streets around Cheam station (SM3 and SM2), plus nearby areas including Sutton, Worcester Park and Ewell. St Helier Hospital is the main hospital for the borough.

Do you offer respite care in Cheam?

Yes. Our respite care gives a family member in SM3 a real break while a live-in carer looks after their relative. It is live-in respite: the carer stays in the house for as long as the break lasts.

Can you support a hospital discharge?

Yes. We can have a live-in carer ready when your relative comes home from St Helier Hospital, so the first night is quiet. Give us the date you have been told and we will plan from it.

What is the 14-Day Live Well at Home Guarantee?

In the first 14 days you can end care for any reason, with no notice and no fee.

How do I pay, and can I get funding?

Payment is by Bank Transfer or Direct Debit only. Funding might come through NHS Continuing Healthcare or a care needs assessment by Sutton Council, and Age UK Sutton offers local guidance.

Can a carer take my father to see Whitehall, the old house in Cheam Village?

Yes. Whitehall dates from about 1500, housed Cheam School from 1645, and reopened as a museum in June 2018 after a £1.6 million refurbishment. Prince Philip attended the school, which later moved to Tabor Court. Opening times change, so we check first, then go with him.

Can the carer go with my mother to St Dunstan’s or the Baptist church?

Yes. St Dunstan’s was built in 1864 with a lychgate of 1891, Cheam Baptist Church was founded by Charles Spurgeon in 1862, and St Andrew’s United Reformed Church on Northey Avenue dates from 1933. Lumley Chapel, the oldest standing building in the borough, is run by the Churches Conservation Trust.

Can my husband still watch cricket or football locally?

Often, yes. Cheam Cricket Club plays at Peaches Close and Cheam Rovers FC is the local football side. We would ring ahead about seating and access, then the carer goes with him and settles him in a comfortable spot.

Just Call Us. We Will Take It From There.
