Live-in carer helping an elderly woman at home, live-in care in Wimbledon

Live-In Care in Wimbledon (SW19)

Yes, NeeryVille Care provides live-in care in Wimbledon SW19 and across the London Borough of Merton. A trained, DBS-checked carer moves into your loved one’s home and supports them through the day and the night, so the library walk, the familiar front door and the view of the Broadway all remain part of daily life. It is one regular carer, not a rota of strangers, and someone is in the house when the worry arrives at three in the morning.

When a stay at St George’s Hospital in Tooting is the reason you are looking, we plan the journey home with you. The hospital stands on Blackshaw Road, SW17, its main building was completed on the Tooting site in 1980, and it runs one of London’s eight hyper-acute stroke units. Merton Council also has a Hospital to Home Team that arranges short-term support for residents leaving hospital. Some families use it first and others prefer to arrange live-in care privately from the day they come home. Either way, we check how long any short-term support is due to last, plan around it and take over from there.

Shared stairs, or a flat above the shops near the station, can quietly shrink an older person’s world, especially once the neighbours who used to look in have moved away. Call us on 0208 129 5854 to talk it through, with no obligation.

Live-In Care at Home in Wimbledon: Home on the Hill, Care Beside You

Picture an ordinary Saturday for a woman who has loved the theatre all her life. Breakfast is unhurried, her carer helps her dress for the afternoon, and together they make the outing to the New Wimbledon Theatre on the Broadway, an Edwardian building that opened in 1910 and is Grade II listed. The carer carries the bag and the stick, helps her to her seat and sees her home for tea. Nobody has to ask a daughter to take a day off work. If that is the sort of day you want for your relative, ask us how we would plan it.

Quieter days follow the same gentle pattern: the radio, a crossword in the good chair, a stroll to Wimbledon Library for the next novel, supper at the usual hour. At night the carer is in the house for the stairs, the bathroom or a bad dream. Ring us when you would like days like these arranged.

A Slow, Dignified Start

Getting up, washing, dressing and breakfast in whatever order your relative has always done them. The carer lives there, so the morning never waits on a visiting slot.

Somewhere to Go, Someone to Talk To

The Wimbledon Guild of Social Welfare, at Guild House on Worple Road, is listed as running an activity and social centre and a Thursday afternoon club for older people with talks, films, quizzes and live music. A carer can help your relative go along and enjoy it.

Tablets and Appointments

Medicines are prompted and written down each time, and the carer keeps the diary for the GP and for clinics, including trips to St George’s Hospital, then tells the family what was said.

Meals Worth Sitting Down To

Fresh meals cooked to taste, appetite and any dietary advice, with the shopping done along the Broadway or in Centre Court, the shopping centre that was built in 1990 around the 1931 Town Hall.

A Lap of the Lake

Wimbledon Park has a lake that Capability Brown made in the eighteenth century by damming a brook. A slow circuit on a dry morning, with a bench to rest on, does more for appetite and sleep than most people expect.

Safe on Shared Stairs

Communal stairs, worn carpets and slippery bathrooms cause many falls in converted houses. The carer helps with transfers, notices the loose rug and tells your family if walking begins to change.

What Makes NeeryVille Different for Wimbledon Families

Look up live-in care in Wimbledon and several of the pages that rank name no local hospital and no council, and some show no price at all. We have set out to do the opposite: carers we employ ourselves, one carer per household, and a daily rate printed openly. Here is what that means for a family in SW19.

Familiar faces only

Your relative gets to know one person well, who learns how the tea is made, how the mornings go and what a bad day looks like. Familiarity is what makes care at home feel safe.

For someone with memory problems, a calm, recognisable presence takes the edge off the day. Our same-carer approach is built around that, and you can ask us how it works.

Leave within 14 days, no fee

If the arrangement is wrong for any reason in the first 14 days, you can end it straight away, with no notice and no charge.

That promise is our 14-Day Live Well at Home Guarantee, so a decision made in a hurry after a hospital stay does not have to trap anyone.

Our own employees

NeeryVille Care is regulated by the Care Quality Commission. Every carer is on our payroll, trained and supervised by us, so you never become the employer of a self-employed worker. You can read our registration on the CQC website before you decide.

Clinically led

Each arrangement runs inside a clinical governance framework led by experienced clinical leaders, which keeps care steady for dementia, a stroke recovery or a long-term heart condition.

Home soon after discharge

Plans for leaving St George’s Hospital can change in a day. Once our assessment is complete, a matched carer can usually be in place at the Wimbledon home within 24 to 48 hours, so ask us about the planned discharge date.

Overseen personally

Daniel Johnson, our Registered Care Manager, has over twelve years in care and specialist dementia training, and he oversees every live-in arrangement himself, from the first assessment onwards.

How Do You Know It Is Time for a Live-In Carer in Wimbledon?

It rarely starts with a crisis. More often a daughter who commutes out of Wimbledon station each morning realises she is ringing her mother from the platform, then from the train, then again at lunch, and one evening admits she is more tired than her mother is. Live-in care is worth considering when someone needs help round the clock but wants to remain in the home they know.

Sometimes it is a hospital stay that decides it. A fall on the stairs, a spell at St George’s Hospital in Tooting, and then a return to a flat that suddenly seems too big and too steep, with nobody sure who will make breakfast on the first morning.

Whatever has brought you here, we begin with one question. Not “how many hours?” but “what would make each day better for this person, at home in Wimbledon?” Tell us the answer and we will build the plan around it.

We also provide respite care for the relative who has been holding everything together, with a live-in carer your loved one gets to know, so that a proper rest is possible.

Health Conditions Our Wimbledon Carers Support

Our live-in carers in Wimbledon support people living with dementia, recovering from a stroke, or living with Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, cancer and reduced mobility, in SW19 and across the London Borough of Merton.

Under One Roof: Couples in Wimbledon

Think of a couple who kept a shop on the Broadway for most of their working lives and now live in a flat nearby. He has had a stroke and tires quickly. She is losing her central vision to macular degeneration and can no longer read the labels on his tablets. One live-in carer can read the labels, steady his walking, cook for the two of them and let each keep the other’s company in the flat that holds their story.

Because the carer supports both of them, time goes where it is needed on any given day, and neither has to move out so the other can be safe. If this sounds like your parents, ask us about a plan for two.

Why Wimbledon Families Choose Live-In Care at Home Instead of a Care Home

If your relative has lived in Wimbledon for years, the library, the Broadway and their own front door are probably part of who they are. Live-in care lets that life carry on, with a carer in the house day and night.

The town we know today grew down the slope below the old village after a railway station opened at the foot of Wimbledon Hill in 1838. Ely’s department store followed in 1876, the library in 1887, and the New Wimbledon Theatre in 1910. Someone who has watched the Broadway change for decades has earned the right to stay beside it.

Moving into a care home means leaving behind the bed, the cupboards and the routine that make a day feel familiar. With live-in care, one carer comes to your relative’s own house and learns how they like things done, so the person at bedtime is the person at breakfast. If there are two of you, a couple can remain together under one roof, with one carer helping both.

After the Second World War many large Victorian houses around Wimbledon Park were divided into flats, so shared stairs and homes above shops near the station are common for older people. A live-in carer helps on those stairs, does the errands and goes on walks with your relative. After a stay at St George’s Hospital in Tooting, the same carer can be waiting at home.

Paying for Care at Home in Wimbledon

Most families assume the whole cost falls on them. Merton’s own page on paying for care at home says savings under £14,250 are not counted towards your contribution, savings over £23,250 mean paying the maximum charge, and your home is not counted as savings, though the figures are reviewed, so confirm them with the council. If your relative has a complex, long-term health condition, also ask about NHS Continuing Healthcare, which can fund care when the main need is a health need.

The way in is to contact Merton Council’s Adult Social Care First Response Team on 020 8545 4388, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, to request a needs assessment under the Care Act 2014. The financial assessment is a separate step with its own team on 020 8545 3632, and the council says a free benefit check is offered during it.

Age UK Merton gives free information and advice to people aged 50 and over at the Elmwood Centre, 277 London Road, Mitcham, on 020 8648 5792, Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 1pm, and covers Attendance Allowance, Pension Credit and Council Tax Support. It also offers home visits to Merton residents who are housebound. If memory is the worry, Merton Dementia Support from the Alzheimer’s Society takes enquiries on 020 8687 0922, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

Our advice is to let care begin while the paperwork runs alongside, so nobody waits for a decision before help arrives. Tell us where you are in the process and we will fit around it.

Starting Live-In Care in Wimbledon

Families often tell us they wish they had rung sooner. Here is what happens when you do.

01

Make a single call

Nothing needs preparing beforehand.

Ring 0208 129 5854 and you will speak to Daniel Johnson or a member of our care team.

We listen first, then talk through what would make the biggest difference in Wimbledon. There are no forms and no obligation.

It is a plain conversation with people who do this every day.

03

We learn who they are

We ask about the songs, the shows and the streets they remember. In Wimbledon that may be a childhood pantomime at the New Wimbledon Theatre, which opened with Jack and Jill in 1910 and saw Lionel Bart’s Oliver! and Half a Sixpence premiere in the 1960s, or a grandchild’s first trip to the Polka Theatre, in the former Holy Trinity Halls since November 1979. A programme or a cast recording can open an afternoon of conversation.

Folk fans may light up at Sandy Denny, who was born at the Nelson Hospital in 1947. Everything we learn goes into a care plan written for one person, so call us and tell us which tunes still make them smile.

We match the carer

We match skills to needs and personality to personality, so the carer fits the household.

The 14-Day Live Well at Home Guarantee means you can try the match without risk.

02

04

Your carer moves in

Your carer moves in, usually within 24 to 48 hours of the assessment, and sooner after a hospital stay.

Urgent requests linked to St George’s Hospital are put first.

You have one point of contact from the first day.

From your first call to a carer moving in, 24 to 48 hours is the usual picture. When a situation is urgent, we aim to go faster.

We arrange the free assessment at a time that suits you, and we keep in close contact with the family once live-in care has begun, so that changes in health, mood or routine are noticed early and acted on.

Neeryville Care - Compassionate Home Care You Can Trust

Live-In Care in Wimbledon: The Questions We Are Asked Most

How much does live-in care in Wimbledon cost?

Live-in care from NeeryVille Care in Wimbledon costs £190 per day, fully inclusive, with no hidden extras. We confirm your exact figure in writing after the free assessment and before anything is agreed.

How quickly can live-in care start in Wimbledon?

Usually within 24 to 48 hours of the assessment, and that includes a return from St George’s Hospital. Give us the planned discharge date and we work back from it.

Do you provide live-in care for people with dementia?

Yes. One carer who stays gives one-to-one support in rooms the person knows, which keeps days calmer. Merton Dementia Support, run by the Alzheimer’s Society, takes enquiries on 020 8687 0922 on weekdays from 9am to 5pm, and covers people with a dementia diagnosis who live in Merton or are registered with a Merton GP.

Is live-in care better than a care home?

That is a personal choice. Live-in care keeps someone in their own home with a carer’s full attention, and a couple can stay together. In Wimbledon, where many people live in flats created from large Victorian houses, families often value having every task done at their own front door.

What happens if my carer is ill or on holiday?

We send a cover carer from our own team, so your relative is never left without support.

Is NeeryVille Care regulated by the CQC?

Yes. NeeryVille Care Ltd is registered with the Care Quality Commission, and you can view our CQC provider page.

Which areas of Wimbledon do you cover?

We cover the Broadway, Wimbledon Hill, Wimbledon Park and South Wimbledon (SW19), and nearby areas including Colliers Wood, Merton Park and Raynes Park. Wimbledon station is the terminus of the District line and Tramlink, which helps visitors reach the home.

Do you offer respite care in Wimbledon?

Yes. NeeryVille also provides respite care, so a family carer in SW19 can rest while a live-in carer looks after their relative at home. It is live-in respite, with a carer who moves in for the break.

Can you support a hospital discharge?

Yes. We can have a live-in carer in place when your relative comes home from St George’s Hospital, so the first night is settled. Some families use Merton’s Hospital to Home Team for short-term support first, and others prefer to go private from the start. We check how long any support will last, plan around it and take over from there.

What is the 14-Day Live Well at Home Guarantee?

It means you can end the arrangement at any point in the first 14 days, for any reason, with no notice and no fee.

How do I pay, and can I get funding?

Payment is by Bank Transfer or Direct Debit only. Help may come through NHS Continuing Healthcare or a Care Act assessment from Merton Council, and Age UK Merton offers free advice on benefits such as Attendance Allowance.

Can a live-in carer take my father to the New Wimbledon Theatre?

Yes, outings are part of the day. The theatre on the Broadway is an Edwardian, Grade II listed building that opened on 26 December 1910. We plan the trip with you, ask the box office about seating and access beforehand, and the carer stays at his side for the evening.

Where can my mother find company outside the house?

Wimbledon Library, at 35 Wimbledon Hill Road, is fully accessible and has a disabled toilet. It opens Monday to Saturday. The Wimbledon Guild of Social Welfare on Worple Road is also listed with an activity and social centre. A carer can accompany her to either.

My mother is in St George’s Hospital in Tooting. Who arranges help at home?

The ward team assesses her needs and may refer her to Merton’s Hospital to Home Team, which can arrange short-term support at home. Some families use that first and others prefer to arrange live-in care privately straight away. We check how long any short-term support will last, plan around it and take over from there, with a live-in carer ready at the Wimbledon home when she arrives.
