Live-in carer helping an elderly woman at home, live-in care in Victoria

Live-In Care in Victoria (SW1V)

Yes, NeeryVille Care provides live-in care in Victoria (SW1V), within the City of Westminster. Our carers are trained and DBS-checked, and one of them moves in and stays, so your relative has help by day and by night in their own armchair and their own bed. That is 24 hour care in Victoria from a single person who knows the household.

Perhaps a spell on a ward prompted your call. We plan the homecoming around Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, whose services came from the old Westminster Hospital, a charity founded in 1719 that stood on Broad Sanctuary at the Abbey end of Victoria Street from 1834. Pass on the ward’s date and we aim to place a carer within two days.

Older blocks and converted buildings may have steep stairs or small lifts, and the crowds around the station can wear out someone who is unsteady. Call us on 0208 129 5854 to talk it through, with no obligation.

Live-In Care at Home in Victoria: Station Bustle Outside, Calm Within

Imagine a Tuesday morning. A carer helps your mother into her good coat and they make their way to Westminster Cathedral, where John Francis Bentley’s design was begun with a foundation stone on 29 June 1895, finished in 1903 and consecrated on 28 June 1910. The Grand Organ, with four manuals and 81 stops, was built by Henry Willis III between 1922 and 1932. Services and opening times change, so the carer checks beforehand and then finds a seat where she can listen.

On a bad day she stays by the fire and the carer reads to her. Both days count. If your mother once loved church music and no longer gets out, let us hear by phone what she used to enjoy.

Mornings That Take Their Time

Getting up, washing, dressing and breakfast happen in the order your relative prefers and at their pace. The carer is already in the flat, so nobody is watching the clock.

Memories of the Old Neighbourhood

Conversation may wander to the Metropole Kinema, built in 1929 and in use until 1977, to the Army and Navy Stores flagship that opened on Victoria Street in 1872, or to Little Ben, the clock tower erected in 1892, taken away in 1964 and brought back in 1981. Old streets give a good listener plenty to ask about.

Medication Done Properly

Tablets are given at the right times and noted in a daily record. The carer keeps a calendar of GP, clinic and dental appointments, goes with your relative, and lets the family know if appetite, sleep or balance begin to change.

Food They Actually Enjoy

Meals are cooked from scratch to suit your relative’s tastes and any dietary advice. Shopping is done together where possible, so the kitchen holds the familiar things.

A Bench in Christchurch Gardens

Christchurch Gardens, at the Broadway end of Victoria Street, reopened in September 2020 with new seating, lawns, trees and a drinking water fountain, and has no closing times. The Suffragette Monument was installed there in 1970, and a bronze Henry Purcell, put up in 1995, stands beside it. A slow circuit and a sit-down make a good outing.

Calm Nights, Safe Steps

Risky moments often come at night, in the bathroom or on the last steps before the front door. A carer who sleeps in the flat hears a problem early, keeps the route lit and clear, and is there for every transfer.

Why Victoria Families Pick NeeryVille Care

Two pages we opened while searching for live-in care in Victoria say very little about the area. One shows no live-in price and names no hospital. A directory listing for the other gives a weekly price from £1,680 with no breakdown, and Victoria does not appear on it at all. Neither explains how NHS funding works or answers the questions families ask. We show our daily price, introduce our manager, employ our carers directly and answer local questions. Read on, then call for a free assessment.

One carer, every day

Your relative will not meet a new face every weekend or a stranger at the bedside at night. A single carer comes to know the routine, the favourite chair and the signs of a difficult day.

For someone with memory loss, a familiar voice calms the whole home. Our same-carer approach is designed around exactly that.

Stop within 14 days, no cost

If the arrangement is not right at any point in the first 14 days, you can end it that same day, with no notice period and nothing to pay.

This is our 14-Day Live Well at Home Guarantee, so you can start without feeling locked in.

Our own employees

NeeryVille Care is regulated by the Care Quality Commission. Every carer is employed, trained and supervised by us, so you take on none of the duties of an employer and nobody is self-employed. Anyone can check our registration on the CQC website.

Clinical oversight

Care for dementia, Parkinson’s disease and recovery after a stroke is guided by a clinical governance framework run by experienced clinicians, which keeps every arrangement safe and consistent.

In place in a day or two

When Chelsea and Westminster Hospital names a discharge date, time is short. After the assessment a matched carer can usually be in your relative’s Victoria home within 24 to 48 hours.

A manager with a name

Daniel Johnson, our Registered Care Manager, has more than twelve years in care and specialist dementia training, and he oversees each arrangement personally. You are welcome to ask him anything.

Is This the Moment for a Live-In Carer in Victoria?

Few families choose the day. The day chooses them, usually with a phone call.

Picture a daughter who commutes into Victoria and hears from a neighbour that her father was found in the corridor, confused. Or a son told by Chelsea and Westminster Hospital that his mother may go home on Thursday, with nobody free to meet her at the flat. Neither has failed; each simply needs someone in the house.

So we do not begin by asking about hours. We ask what would help most over the next two weeks, and we give an honest answer about what we can arrange. Call and tell us what has happened.

We also provide respite care, giving a family carer a few days of real rest while a live-in carer stays with your relative.

Health Conditions Our Victoria Carers Support

Our live-in carers in Victoria support people living with dementia, recovering from a stroke, or living with Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, cancer and reduced mobility, in SW1V and across the City of Westminster.

Growing Old Together: Couples in Victoria

Picture a husband and wife in a flat near Victoria Street. He has Parkinson’s disease and moves slowly; she has weakness down one side after a stroke and needs help to dress. They have shared a home for decades and neither will go anywhere without the other. One live-in carer can help her in the mornings, steady him on the stairs and cook for both, so that they stay together in their own rooms.

Time is shared between them as needs shift, which saves paying for two arrangements. If this sounds close to home, ask us how a normal day could run.

Why Victoria Families Choose Live-In Care at Home Instead of a Care Home

If your relative has lived in Victoria for fifty years, they know which corner they like best, and live-in care lets them keep it.

Victoria Street opened in 1851 on ground cleared of the Devil’s Acre slum, and the station followed on 1 October 1860, built over the old Grosvenor Canal basin. The Victoria Palace Theatre came in 1911, the coach station in 1932, and a cathedral was finished in 1903. Anyone who has watched all that arrive has good reason to want to stay.

Going into a care home means starting over somewhere unfamiliar. At home your relative keeps their own armchair and their own bed, while a carer lives in and becomes someone who knows the household. The hand that helps at bedtime is the one that makes breakfast, and a couple can stay together with one carer helping both.

The station is among the busiest interchanges in London, and the crowds around it can tire someone who is unsteady or living with dementia, while older blocks may have steep stairs or small lifts. A live-in carer offers calm company indoors and goes along on walks and errands. If a stay at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital comes first, the same carer can be waiting at home.

If you would like to talk about what could work for your family, call us on 0208 129 5854 and we will go through it together, with no obligation.

What the Daily Rate Includes

Paying for Care at Home in Victoria

Ask about NHS Continuing Healthcare first if the need is mainly a health need. It starts with a screening checklist, usually completed by a nurse assessor, and you can begin by speaking to your doctor or a social worker, who can refer you to the integrated care board. A decision on whether a full assessment is needed should usually be made within 28 days, and the care it funds is free.

Westminster City Council can also assess care needs and, if you look after someone yourself, give you a carer’s assessment. Contact Adult Social Care on 020 7641 2500 or at adultsocialcare@westminster.gov.uk, and ask the Financial Assessment Team on 0207 641 2820 how contributions are worked out.

Age UK Westminster runs drop-in advice surgeries and can be reached on 0203 004 5610; its advice is free and independent. Where memory is the worry, a GP can refer your relative to the Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster Memory Service.

We suggest starting care first and settling the claims afterwards, so your relative is never left waiting on paperwork.

Getting Started With Live-In Care in Victoria

Many families wish they had called sooner. Here is what happens when you do.

01

Ring us

You do not need to prepare anything.

Call 0208 129 5854 and you will reach Daniel Johnson or a member of the care team.

We start by listening, then talk through what would help most in Victoria. There are no forms and no obligation.

It is simply a conversation with people who do this every day.

03

We learn about them

We ask about work, hobbies and the places that matter to your relative. Victoria has plenty to draw on: the station opening on 1 October 1860, the Unknown Warrior’s body arriving there on 10 November 1920, the Victoria Palace Theatre opening on 6 November 1911 with a gilded Pavlova on its cupola, and Billy Elliot the Musical running there from 2005 to 2016.

Everything goes into the care plan, which we write with you whenever you choose to call.

We match the carer

We match skills to needs and personality to personality, so the carer fits comfortably into the household.

The 14-Day Live Well at Home Guarantee means there is nothing to lose by trying.

02

04

Your carer moves in

The carer arrives with their luggage, usually within a day or two of the assessment, and faster when a discharge is waiting.

Requests from Chelsea and Westminster Hospital go to the front of the queue.

From the first day you have one number to ring with any question.

From your first call, a carer is usually settled in the house within 24 to 48 hours, sooner if your relative is coming out of hospital.

The free assessment is where we meet your relative, check the stairs and the room the carer will use, and agree plan and price side by side. The process is the same whether the home is on Victoria Street, off Buckingham Palace Road or near Christchurch Gardens.

Neeryville Care - Compassionate Home Care You Can Trust

Live-In Care in Victoria: What Families Want Answered

How much does live-in care in Victoria cost?

Live-in care in Victoria costs £190 per day, fully inclusive, which is £1,330 for seven days. After the free assessment we confirm the exact figure in writing, before you commit to anything.

How quickly can live-in care start in Victoria?

Normally a carer can move in within 24 to 48 hours of the assessment. Discharges from Chelsea and Westminster Hospital get priority, and the assessment visit can often be fixed for the next day.

Do you provide live-in care for people with dementia?

Yes. One carer who learns the home and the person offers patient, close dementia support, with familiar objects and a familiar voice to steady each day. Memory assessment is available on referral from a GP through Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster Memory Service.

Is live-in care better than a care home?

The answer differs from person to person. Live-in care leaves your relative among their own things with a carer who looks after one household, and a couple need not be parted. At the assessment we walk through the stairs and the bedroom with you.

What happens if my carer is ill or on holiday?

A colleague from our own team covers the gap, so no day is left without support.

Is NeeryVille Care regulated by the CQC?

Yes, we are registered with the Care Quality Commission as NeeryVille Care Ltd. Our CQC provider page is public, so you can check it yourself.

Which areas of Victoria do you cover?

Victoria (SW1V) and the nearby streets, including Victoria Street, Buckingham Palace Road, Christchurch Gardens and the area around Westminster Cathedral, plus neighbouring Pimlico, Westminster and Belgravia. If your address is not listed, ring and we will tell you straight away whether we can help.

Do you offer respite care in Victoria?

Yes. Our respite care lets a spouse, son or daughter who has been caring alone step away for a few days while a live-in carer stays beside your relative.

Can you support a hospital discharge?

Yes. We can have a carer in the house when your relative is brought home from Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. Tell us the likely date as soon as the ward mentions it, and we will plan the first night with you.

What is the 14-Day Live Well at Home Guarantee?

During the first 14 days you can stop for any reason, immediately, with no notice and no fee.

How do I pay, and can I get funding?

Payment is by Bank Transfer or Direct Debit only. Westminster City Council can arrange a Care Act assessment, NHS Continuing Healthcare may apply, and Age UK Westminster gives free advice on 0203 004 5610.

Can a live-in carer cope with the stairs and lifts in older blocks near Victoria Street?

We look at it at the assessment. Our questions cover the floor, any lift, the steps to the front door and any recent fall. Then we agree who does what, so the home is as safe as it can be.

Is the old Westminster Hospital the same as Chelsea and Westminster Hospital?

Not exactly, but one grew out of the other. Westminster Hospital began in 1719 as a charity, moved to Buckingham Gate in 1735, to Broad Sanctuary in 1834 and to a new building on Horseferry Road in 1939. When it closed in the 1990s its work moved to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital on Fulham Road. Ask the ward where your relative’s appointments will be held.

Can the carer take my father to a show at the Victoria Palace Theatre?

Yes, at his own pace and with plenty of notice. The theatre opened on 6 November 1911 and is Grade II* listed. Productions, seating and step-free access vary, so check with the box office before booking, and tell us at the assessment if he would enjoy an outing like this.

Just Call Us. We Will Take It From There.
